Orquestra Ouro Preto faz homenagem a lenda do jazz
A mistura requintada do piano e dos trompetes do jazz com os acordes de violinos e violoncelos será apresentada no próximo concerto da Orquestra Ouro Preto. O repertório escolhido é a música impecável e sem fronteiras de um dos maiores nomes do gênero, o pianista e multiartista Duke Ellington (1879-1974). Em live inédita, o concerto promete uma experiência diferenciada que vai transportar o público para o clima intimista, típico da época áurea do ritmo nos Estados Unidos. O concerto será transmitido ao vivo, gratuitamente, no dia 19 de junho, sábado, às 20h30, no canal do YouTube da Orquestra.

Famoso por sua enorme contribuição ao jazz e à música americana, Duke criou a combinação do jazz com o blues e o som das grandes orquestras de swing se tornando um dos músicos mais influentes do seu tempo. Ao lado da Duke Ellington Orchestra, o músico tocava o chamado estilo jungle, com arranjos minimalistas e a presença forte do trompete.
No concerto, o público irá apreciar sucessos como Take the ‘A’ train, In a sentimental mood e Sophisticated Lady e outros que já foram interpretados também por grandes nomes do jazz como Billie Holliday e Ella Fitzgerald. O Maestro Rodrigo Toffolo ressalta que será a primeira vez que a Orquestra irá trabalhar o repertório. “O concerto será um convite para o público viajar conosco ao mundo do jazz e conhecer a música de excelência de Duke Ellington, um artista gigante, referência por sua criatividade ímpar”.
Com arranjos de Maurício de Souza, a apresentação traz como convidado especial o renomado pianista brasileiro Cristian Budu, parceiro da Orquestra em outros concertos, tendo gravado recentemente o 12º disco do grupo.
Patrocinado pelo Instituto Cultural Vale, através da Lei Federal de Incentivo à Cultura do Governo Federal, o concerto seguirá todos os protocolos de saúde e segurança para a equipe e músicos. Em função das restrições da pandemia, não haverá presença de público.

Com mais de 200 álbuns gravados, o artista nova-iorquino, cuja história se confunde com a história do jazz, é talvez o mais importante jazzista que já existiu. Além de compositor o pianista e multi-instrumentista, Duke Ellington era também um maestro, visto que liderava uma orquestra que o acompanhava em suas apresentações, a Duke Ellington Orchestra. Juntos, fizeram imenso sucesso entre 1920 e 1960, influenciando uma geração de músicos que tocavam e exploravam o gênero naquela época, até os dias de hoje.

O concerto, patrocinado pelo Instituto Cultural Vale, através da Lei Federal de Incentivo à Cultura do Governo Federal, acontece em Belo Horizonte-MG. Em função das restrições da pandemia, não haverá presença de público. Todos os protocolos de saúde e segurança serão seguidos e toda a equipe de músicos e produção será testada com o exame RT-PCR, padrão ouro.

Orquestra Ouro Preto pays tribute to jazz legend
The next concert to be presented by Orquestra Ouro Preto will showcase a refined and exquisite blend of piano and jazz trumpets with the chords of violins and cellos. The repertoire chosen is the impeccable and borderless music of one of the biggest names in the genre, the pianist and multi-artist Duke Ellington (1879-1974). In an unprecedented live event, the concert promises to offer a unique experience that will transport the audience to the intimate atmosphere, typical of the jazz golden age in the United States. The concert will be broadcast live, free of charge, on Saturday, June 19, at 6:30 PM (CDT) / 7:30 PM (EDT), on the orchestra’s YouTube channel.
Famous for his enormous contribution to jazz and American music, Duke created the combination of jazz, blues and the sound of the great swing orchestras, becoming one of the most influential musicians of his time. Alongside the Duke Ellington Orchestra, the musician played the so-called jungle style, with minimalist arrangements and the strong presence of the trumpet. In Brazil, Duke is revered as one of the great influences of musical movements such as Bossa Nova and Brazilian Jazz.
At the concert, the audience will enjoy hits such as Take the ‘A’ train, In a sentimental mood, and Sophisticated Lady, and others that have also been performed by great jazz interpreters such as Billie Holliday and Ella Fitzgerald. Maestro Rodrigo Toffolo points out that it will be the first time that the orchestra will work on this repertoire. “The concert will be an invitation for the public to travel with us to the jazz world and discover the music excellence of Duke Ellington, a giant artist, a reference for his unique creativity. This time, we want to show how a Brazilian orchestra celebrates this great figure who is so important in the music realm worldwide. Don’t expect anything too conventional.”
Arranged by Maurício de Souza, the presentation brings the renowned Brazilian pianist Cristian Budu as a special guest, and partner of the Orchestra in other concerts, having recently recorded the group’s 12th album.
Sponsored by Instituto Cultural Vale, through the Federal Government’s Federal Law for the Incentive of Culture, the concert will follow all health and safety protocols for the orchestra’s team and musicians. Due to the restrictions of the pandemic, there will be no public presence.
